thrive does not have grades. On their academic journey through thrive, your child will progress at their own pace through various phases of learning. We adapt our approach to learning, chosen curriculums, and content as your child grows and learns. Intermediate

At this naturally inquisitive age we aim to harness that innate desire to learn and stimulate curiosity in formal, explorative and informal learning. We build relationships with parents and students to create a holistic environment for development. With an individual approach to the learning experience, your child is set up to excel. Curriculum Overview

Maths

The focus of intermediate phase math is to develop deep conceptual comprehension as well as improve confidence with hands-on support. Real world application helps your child relate math to familiar concepts and cements their understanding.

Language Arts

The goal of Intermediate Language Arts is to foster the student’s confidence in self-expression and to help them develop an understanding of context and structure. This encompasses learning skills to effectively analyze, interpret and summarize content. Your child will be encouraged to use imagination and creativity, along with the language concepts masteVivid Skye Blue at this point. The natural development of effective communication sets a strong foundation for the next phase of senior learning.

Natural Science

Your child has access to a variety of academic and explorative learning opportunities to expand their naturally inquisitive mind in scientific thinking. Our students grow a deeper appreciation and understanding for their world and environment through both tactile nature study and research based learning. This sets up their foundation of the core scientific knowledge needed to progress with developing balanced analytical minds.

Social Science

Social Studies gives an inside look into how we view our own world, as well as the opportunity to learn more about the worldview of others. At thrive students are encouraged to explore history to gain perspective on different cultures, environments and the impact it has on society today. These insights provide a challenge to become responsible citizens of the world.

Technology

At thrive we recognise that Technology forms an essential part of our forward-moving world. We introduce an organic and balanced approach, while equipping our students with the tools they need to engage in effective learning. Students are carefully guided along with growth in online etiquette and safety. Our various curricula and elective options promote confidence in technologies such as coding and robotics.

Physical Development

At thrive we understand that physical well-being forms an integral part of whole-child development. Our physical education programs include guidance in making meal and exercise choices to promote a healthy and active lifestyle. We encourage outdoor play and teach self-regulation through movement. Creative Development

Creativity is core to your child’s cognitive development. Our students are encouraged to explore their creativity with explorative learning activities and art projects. Social Development

An intentional and intuitive approach to Social Development has become vital in our changing world. Our educators are ongoingly trained and supported by a leading team of professionals including occupational therapists and psychologists in intervention based, organic guidance for their students’ social and behavioural development. World of Languages

Mathematics

With an emphasis on real world application and lateral thinking, students complete math lessons and assignments that ensure deep comprehension and concept mastery. Your child will be supported and coached to grow in confidence and independence.

Language Arts

Senior Language Arts focuses on developing a concrete understanding of written English. This includes analyzing poetry, speeches, essays and advertisements. Students complete writing assignments that result in well constructed essays and responsive pieces. Discussion based assessments provide opportunities to deliberate and confer with teachers about what has been learnt.

World of Languages

thrive’s additional languages prepare our students for the growing global community. Access to international and local languages enables your child to diversify and strengthen their communication skills.

Natural Science

Our multi-medium approach successfully exposes your child to a large scope of scientific fields. Theory, practical experiments and free exploration are combined to result in a well rounded scientific understanding and growth in observation and analytical skills.

Social Science

Social Studies provides both a global perspective in World History and a more detailed look into localized History. This combination of a broad overview and an in depth learning of historic and societal concepts aids your child in approaching the world around them with different lenses and levels of understanding.

Economics

Basic Economic Management Sciences teaches essential skills of budgeting, terminology and how money systems work. This is achieved in a dual approach of academic and applied learning experiences. In the higher levels, an Economics course covers introductory economic principles that create a fantastic foundation for any student interested in studying commerce subjects at a tertiary level.

Technology

Technology forms a balanced and organic part of the tools your child has access to for engaging in learning at thrive. Termly projects introduce our students to diverse and contemporary technologies, giving them a deeper and more progressive understanding of their developing world. Our various curricula and elective options promote a confidence in technologies such as coding, robotics and game development, carefully guided along with growth in online etiquette and safety.

Physcial Development

Physical well being is an integral part of whole-child development. Our physical education programs include practical skills such as understanding the importance of meal and exercise plans. 24 Credit American High School Diploma Route

Florida Virtual School, which is provided by South African Virtual School, is an American program that culminates in a 22 to 24 credit College Entry American High School Diploma.
recommend that students elect 2 to 3 AP courses to add to their transcript. This is an excellent option for students who intend to further their studies at a tertiary level whether that be locally or internationally.

Foundation

In a time in your child’s life where wonder and discovery are natural inclinations, we engage them with a love for learning through the mediums they already relate to - play, explore, question. Curriculum Overview

Maths

Through the mediums of adventure and discovery, we will support your child in mastering foundational math concepts. Tactile and experiential learning engages them in learning basic math skills, growing in arithmetic fluency and developing their confidence in problem solving.

Language Arts

A whole world of wonder, magic and exploration opens up to your child as they discover and strengthen their foundational reading skills through the use of phonics, narrative, opinion and informative writing. Creative Development

Creativity plays a role in every thrive subject and learning opportunity. Your child is exposed to various mediums and activities to develop their creative thinking, growth and fine motor skills, and artistic expression. This ranges from class art activities to more complex termly art projects, and also more organic engagement of creative thinking in their daily curriculum work.

Social Development

At thrive academic learning lives as a part of a whole child development lifeschooling lifestyle. We know that your child will be better equipped to use what they learn if we are also proactive about guiding their social development. Life skills, communication and listening skills all form a part of what your child’s teacher will support them in developing daily through both organic social encounters as well as intentional social engagement opportunities. Our students are made aware of their role and encouraged to share in the responsibilities in their own classroom, allowing them to find more self control and self awareness of their place in their world.
